About the author

Rodney Levick trained in Physiology and Medicine at Oxford University. After a short period in medical practice he returned to the field of physiological research. His main interests have been the microcirculation and microvascular fluid exchange - interests that led to research into how joint fluid is formed, and into the pathophysiology of human lymphoedema. His teaching role at St George's Hospital Medical School (where he was elected 'Best Lecturer' by the students on several occasions) led to a wider interest in the cardiovascular system and the production of the textbook 'An Introduction to Cardiovascular Physiology'. He was awarded a Doctorate of Science by Oxford University in 1993 in recognition of his research contributions, and was elected a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2003 for his contributions in the field of medical research. Now retired and living in Devon, he is also an Honorary Member of the British Microcirculation Society and Emeritus Professor of Physiology at St George's, University of London.
